The Chicago commercial real estate market has always been fairly stable even during times of recession, especially the O'Hare Airport area which includes Elk Grove Village. This steady demand for commercial and industrial space is one of the reasons why the Chicago office of Duke Realty is going strong. "We've always liked the market in and around O'Hare Airport," says Steve Schnur, senior vice president of Duke Realty's Chicago office. "It's a very good location for the industrial product that we focus on."

Duke Realty is one of the largest publicly traded commercial real estate companies in the United States, with millions of square feet of industrial, office, and medical office properties in key cities across the country. Headquartered in Indianapolis, the company's services include site selection, development, construction, financing, leasing, and property management. Duke Realty owns and manages nearly 11million square feet of space in the Chicago market and its industrial portfolio is the company's third largest. Duke Realty entered the Chicago market in 1997 and has grown to be one of the area's largest commercial real estate providers.

"Our portfolio is comprised primarily of industrial warehouses of 250,000 square feet and above," says Schnur. "We also own several office and medical office buildings in the Chicago area. About 30 percent of the property we own has been constructed by us, while the rest was acquired."

The Chicago office of Duke Realty has 500,000 square feet of space in Elk Grove Village, which is leased to two global logistics companies. Duke Realty's warehouse at 1717 Busse Road is occupied by Ceva Logistics, and Duke Realty has built a 229,841-square-foot distribution facility for Yusen Logistics at 1300 Busse Road.

"Elk Grove is a great community to develop in," Schnur says. "City officials have always been very helpful, from both our perspective and the client's."
