The Village Grove Apartments at 1130 Cheekwood Court have been offering comfortable, independent lifestyles to active residents 62 years of age or older since 1974.

The 300 one-bedroom, first and second-floor units, which are available in three different floor plans, all include an 8x8-square-foot kitchen and a private patio or balcony. The apartments also feature free utilities such as cable TV, gas, heat, and water, along with plenty of weekly, bi-weekly and monthly social activities.

"Our Resident Activity Coordinator, Alison Champeau, organizes a full social calendar," says Connie Salamone, Village Grove's Resident Manager. "We have our own clubhouse and there's something going on there almost every day of the week, such as exercise classes, line dances, poker or bingo games, clubs, and birthday celebrations."

Four full-time maintenance engineers provide 24/7 upkeep and repair services, which frees residents to devote more time to family, health, and social activities. The meandering pathways of the property offer easy access to all 19 buildings, as well as opportunities for exercise. A community nurse and librarian make regular visits to the complex to provide services. Village Grove's most unique feature is its convenient location in downtown Elk Grove Village (near the intersection of Biesterfield and Arlington Heights Roads), which helps residents make the transition to independent retirement living.

"We're within walking distance of grocery stores, banks, restaurants, movie theaters, salons, the public library, and the park district," says Salamone. "Even when residents have to give up driving their own car, they can still maintain a self-sufficient lifestyle." A PACE bus is also available to provide Village Grove residents with door-to-door trips to nearby locations such as Alexian Brothers Hospital and the Woodfield Mall.

"Elk Grove Village offers so much community support," Salamone says. "They always go out of their way to make life nicer for our residents."
